I tried Sidewise, loved it and removed it from Chrome. Because after installing it, the "blue screen of death" appeared, forcing a restart Windows 10. My computer is very stable. I don't see the "blue screen of death" once a year.

Also, after installing Sidewise, Chrome often blinked like a strobe light. I've never seen any other software act like this. Also there was a 3/16th inch gap between Sidewise and Chrome that never could be closed. Sidewise settings were set to have Sidewise always attached to Chrome, but I'd have to start Chrome and then manually start Sidewise. I see Sidewise is in Beta. I'd pay for this Chrome extension if it didn't have so many serious problems.

Sidewise window is not shown when switching from another application (Windows 7)

foobar 8 years ago 0

The sidewise window is not shown when switching to the Chrome window from another application. It doesn't matter how I switch, be it Alt-Tab, Win-<number> (when on position <number> in the taskbar), clicking the entry in the taskbar.

Version 2017.2.12.0

Sidewise no longer works after 2017.2.12.0 update!

flynn 8 years ago updated 8 years ago 6

Since the 2017.2.12.0 update, Sidewise will no longer start in any browser on any of my computers. It doesn't matter whether the OS is Windows 7 or 10. The options page is blank. Isn't anyone else having this problem? I have no access to my tabs, which I heavily depend on. It's urgent that this problem be fixed.

Thanks flynn for posting the appropriate fix of updating your Chrome to the current released version.

I did not see this bug report until today; apologies for the late response.

It looks like there is a way to specify "minimum Chrome version" for the extension which I was not aware of. I'll be sure to set that appropriately for future releases.

Mod for better scrollbar handling

nao 8 years ago 0

A small tip for you or anyone interested. With Sidewise installed, you can't maximize the main Chrome/Opera window anymore, so it's harder to 'find' the vertical scrollbar to move through a web page. Here's what I've been doing for years, and re-doing everytime Sidewise was updated:

Find and open, in your Chrome/Opera's AppData folder,

biiammgklaefagjclmnlialkmaemifgo\(version number)\js\bg\classes\SidebarHandler.js

Find :

return{sidebarLeft:("left"==b?h-c:g)+i+k-e,dockWinLeft:h+i+k-e,dockWinWidth:f}}

Replace with:

return{sidebarLeft:("left"==b?h-c:g)+i+k-e-8,dockWinLeft:h+i+k-e-7,dockWinWidth:f+16}}

What these 7 extra bytes do is that when the windows are sized, the sidebar is placed 8 pixels to the left compared to normal, and the main window's width is increased by 16 pixels. As such, the non-maximized window borders (you know, those gutters with a drop shadow) are hidden, and you can move your mouse cursor to the right of the window to directly drag the scrollbar without even having to look.

I'm not suggesting that it'd be added as a Sidewise feature because maybe the fixed sizes aren't what Windows is using for you (it works on vanilla Windows 7 and Windows 10, at the very least), I did try at some point to use JS to get the border width of windows (as documented online), but it didn't work for me and I didn't insist because it was only for my personal use.

If anything, though, it's a feature to look into. It actually makes Chrome more usable than by default (IIRC, its scrollbars don't 'touch' the border of the screen.)

Sidewise not opening anymore, rebooted, emergency restored, nothing.

RossMan 8 years ago 0

I'm a paid user of Sidewise and about 3 weeks ago, it simply stopped functioning. I haven't added any more extensions, just using it normally like I do every day.

I have disabled it, rebooted, run disk utility and first aid, just about everything I can except totally remove the extension, because it would abandon all my hibernated tabs.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ross

Required action "Create new tab after current"

dlnsk 8 years ago 0

Please, add new double/midle-clicking action "Create new tab after current" (or inside tree).

It's very useful to add new tab next to current and there are many separated plugins for this.

open new window with the same size of already opened one

hronir 8 years ago 0

When resuming an hibernated tab within a new window, the window opens with a full-screen size (but still not really maximized).

Why? When I open a new window from Chrome, it opens a window which is has the same size of the last used opene window: why not to follow just the same policy? why override such chrome native behaviour?

how remove 4 character code showing before title?

kurt 8 years ago updated by Joel Thornton 8 years ago 2

Hi, Just started using Sidewise a couple of weeks ago and it's awesome. However, it shows codes in front of the tab titles, like so:

p529: MidWestOne Bank

I don't think it did that at first. I'm finding them distracting; how do I remove them?

thanks!

'Last session' tabs always show, despite 'Tree remembers open tabs between browser sessions' being toggled off.

Daniel Console 8 years ago 0

It's annoying to cycle through dozens of 'last session' tabs to get to the content I want. Ive tried fiddling with the options but the 'tree remembers...' box seems to do nothing. Also, this issue has been reported in here before, apparently, without answer as far as I'm concerned. Would be awesome to hear some feedback, this extention is amazing
