Zoom of <100% in Sidewise cuts off the panes' right parts (with scroll-bars and the on-hover-buttons)

Max Muster 12 years ago updated by Joel Thornton 12 years ago 1

This might especially be confusing when the user intended to zoom the page he's visiting but accidentally had sidewise focused.
I'm not sure if this is also caused by standard zoom settings.

This is interesting. On my Windows machine, increasing the zoom level of the sidebar scales everything up and still "fits" everything in the available horizontal space, as I think one would expect. Are you still seeing this problem after the new version (just released, 2012.11.23.0)?

I think being able to zoom the sidebar is a good feature in general to have -- as long as it works properly -- for those folks who find the sidebar font size too small.

The addon reorders my tabs all the time. Can you add a setting to disable this?

Elias Ntarlas 9 years ago updated by Joe 9 years ago 1
When I activate the addon, it reorders my current tabs and all the new tabs I open. I searched for a setting to disable this in the options menu, but didnt find anything. Is this deliberate or a bug?

Restoring "Last Session"s and groups of hibernated tabs after resetting tree in diagnostics mode

Max Muster 12 years ago updated by Joel Thornton 12 years ago 0

In diagnostics mode i tried the "reset tree" button, what I only expected to redraw it with all of its content and not (as I now expected it did) with the actually open tabs and windows. That's how I lost my last sessions and a group of hibernated tabs (what was actually called "hibernated Tabs").

Is it all really deleted or just not displayed anymore?

Is there any way to bring it back?

Thank you very, very much!

I'm afraid "reset tree" permanently deletes and rebuilds the tree from scratch.

I apologize for not making this more clear. I'll add a confirmation box when you click "reset tree" in the near future to help avoid unintended consequences.

I'm also planning to add some sort of "recover last version of tree" button to the options page for cases where something goes wrong and the user wants to restore things to an earlier point in time.

Muscle memory from Tree Styled Tabs on Firefox

dsl101 12 years ago updated by Joel Thornton 12 years ago 1

Another thing I really like from the FF add-on (although I'm determined to move to Chrome now) is being able to double click in the blank area below the vertical tab list to open a new tab. Any chance this could make it into the next version? Finding Chrome's New Tab button is a pain... Or maybe I'm missing an easier way (by mouse)?

Definitely planned, though it might not be the next version as I'm trying to freeze things for the next release which has been a while coming. Very probably would make it into the release after that if it doesn't appear in this next one.

---

OK, I just decided to knock this one out. This will appear in the next release which will be coming out sometime between now and the end of the month.

In addition to double-clicking on the empty space creating a new tab, you'll also be able to control (to a limited degree) which page is loaded into the new tab from the Sidewise options. Currently have implemented "New Tab page", "your homepage", "google.com", and "blank tab" options for this.

There is also a "Create new tab" button that appears at the right end of window rows in the page tree coming with the next release, which obeys this same setting.

The Notepad - Page specific notes

Steve Ayres 12 years ago updated by Joel Thornton 12 years ago 0
I always thought it would be cool to be able to take notes on pages I visit. I envision a button on the Notepad that you could click so when you return to that specific page later, the note would still be there. Like, lets say I am shopping for backpacks at REI.com. I would be doing research around the web about the different packs and then I would make notes about each pack on the REI page for that item. Maybe a note that I saw it on sale at another site or craigslist.com or something. Then when I'm ready to buy, I could read over all my notes and make the best choice. Whaddya think? If you implement my idea, please let me know. I'd love to try it out! Anyway, good work, Joel. -Steve Ayres

Great idea.

I think I'd like to somehow combine this idea with a "tree style" view of notes, maybe allowing you to either create a note 'page' for a specific site, or just in general.

For example you might make a 'Backpacks' note if you were researching backpacks across many different sites. And then allow you to nest those notes as you like into a tree of notes that you've created.

Won't be implemented real soon but I really like the concept!

Automatic tab hibernation

Cees Timmerman 11 years ago updated by belg4mit 7 years ago 1
TabMemFree and The Great Suspender can automatically hibernate non-pinned tabs. It would be nice if this addon could do the same. I use Lazarus: Form Recovery to save my form inputs.

Problem with flashing window & Sidewise

Santiago Systems 11 years ago 0
The culprit seems to be "Keep sidebar visible next to dock window". If I toggle it on and change the size of the window, the window and Sidewise start flashing. Same thing happens with Superbird. Iron is also flakey with it on and maximizing/minimizing the window. Another user in the Opera Developer blog also reported this.

Closed tabs are not being closed in Sidewise

Carlos Umanzor 11 years ago updated by eastpaw 9 years ago 2
Hi,

Wondering if someone else has experienced this. If I close a tab from the tab bar (x) or by doing a ctrl+w, the tab is not closed in sidewise.

Closing tabs bug?

A Cleater 12 years ago 0

Totally love sidewise!

Are there some bugs when closing tabs? For example, sometimes when I close a tab, it disappears from the tab bar across the top, but it still appears in the sidewise window down the side.

Just me?

keyboard navigation

Eric Drechsel 11 years ago updated by Aaron Harnly 6 years ago 5

As many "hacker" types, I prefer the keyboard for window switching etc. I will tend to use Cmd-` to switch to Sidewise. From there it would be great if i could navigate using the keyboard. Suggested shortcuts:

Select next/previous rowDown, Up
Search
/
Exit searchEscape
With selected row:
Activate tabReturn
Toggle hibernateH
Close tabDelete

PS I've tried lots of tab manager extensions, and sidewise is my favorite so far.

I'll look into adding this soon as I don't think it will take much code, especially with recent improvements to the Chrome Extension API in the area of keybindings.

Thanks for the table of keybinding suggestions. I think they would make a great default set and will probably configure the default keybindings as such.
