Strange tab ordering decision - is it Chrome or Sidewise?

dsl101 12 years ago updated by Joel Thornton 12 years ago 8

I'm browsing a Wordpress plugin site (s2member) and searched the forums for some info. Clicking on one of their search results opened a new tab - 2 positions 'higher' in the sidewise tree, not as a child of the current tab. Is this expected? The link on the search results just has 'target="_blank"' according to the source of the page. Is there anything else in a link which could affect where the tab is opened?

I believe all known cases of strange-tab-ordering problems should now be fixed in today's release (2012.11.23.0). Please let me know if you are still seeing these types of issues!

Definitely a bug. Do you have pinned tabs also open in the tree?

Yup - the usual 2 (GMail + GCal)

Bet it's related to those. Will update when the pinned tabs stuff is all sorted proper.

Makes sense - 2 pinned tabs, and that was how many rows too 'high' it appeared. Tx

This has been happening to me with no pinned tabs (never use them). Tabs also open to the left of the parent in the normal tab bar. Sometimes I'll be middle clicking a bunch of new tabs and most of them will open properly, but one or two go up/to the left. Sometimes I can open dozens of tabs and they all go fine. Sometimes I left click a link that opens a new tab and it does it. Keeps me on my toes. :P

Haha OK thanks for the feedback, I'll keep trying to reproduce this problem without pinned tabs involved as well.

And just now in Gmail I opened the confirmation link for my account here. Gmail was the rightmost/bottom tab, and the link opened at the right/bottom, but not as a child, and Gmail moved all the way to the left and way up the sidebar, but not the top. It went in the middle of a bunch of suspended tabs. Opened another email link and it came up in the right place and as a child. Possibly I'm having a different issue. Using the dev channel.

Could be a dev-channel issue -- I'll check it out.

I have made some progress on these issues, still running through test scenarios and tracking down at least one more known problem in this area.
