Open new tabs at the top instead of bottom

Image 9The idea is to make it easier to see...

Currently, when you have a lot of tabs, you have to frequently glance down!

This is inconvenient because we are usually focussed in the top left of the screen. (where the text starts on the page view).

As such, the best place to put the tabs we're currently working on will be near the top.

The older tabs should be at the bottom.

(The concept is similar to webpage design. The prime view estate is the top part. The bottom parts is not where the eye lands first.)

I don't have a date for this, but consider it on the priority todo list.

What I would really like to do is just rethink how the tab-ordering/nesting logic works overall, and create options for each specific case, e.g. "where to place new tabs opened via address bar", et al.

Of course, its best made into an option.

I'm thinking this option should probably work like this:

  • Newly created tabs that are not a child of (opened from) some other tab get put at the top of the tree
  • Newly created tabs that ARE a child of some other tab get put into the tree nested under the existing parent (opener) tab, and pursuant to Chrome's own tab-ordering rules as far as whether they get put at the top, middle, or bottom of the parent tab's children

Does that sound right to you?

Hi, can we get a fix for this soon? I'd love to be able to control where new tabs open, it really disrupts my workflow!

Awesome, I'm really looking forward to it. I use Ctrl+T a LOT, and having them open on the bottom and then having to drag them over all my tabs is quite a pain. I love the extension and can't wait to see it get even better. You rock!

Hey, any news on this? Waiting for the day I can finally use my browser the way it was back in Chrome 15, with side tabs and new tabs at the top.

Just to bump this again. I have the opposite problem. I frequently have a bunch of pinned tabs, sometimes in a folder, and with nesting - quite a tree of tabs. When I open Google Drive and open a document, it lands right in the middle of the tree (between the last pinned tab and next non-pinned tab). This behaviour makes no sense in this case, and I want all new tabs (whether via CTRL+T or a link from an existing tab to go to the bottom / right. I'm often opening a bunch of links from GDrive, and then can never find them...

I installed tabs2end to try and achieve this, but it doesn't play well with SW - on Chrome the tab moves to the right, but in SW it stays where it was, and no the 2 lists are out of sync.

Tx,

Dave.

Is there a way to open a new tab just under an existing tab? I dont see the '+' option to do this.
